Our equine partners are what make the world go around, and at Kate Samuels Equestrian, each one is quite a character!

Nyls is a 2001 Selle Francais gelding who has been Kate's partner since 2005, and have come up the through the ranks of Three Day Eventing together through the CIC3* level. Nyls is a once in a lifetime horse, and a supreme athlete. As one of the top horses in the country, everyone who knows Nyls admires his ridiculous style and his overwhelming personality.

Nyls is an unbelievable athletic talent, and certainly a horse of a lifetime. His exuberant style over jumps is unmistakeable, and his enthusiasm for the sport of Three Day Eventing is unmatched. He is also extremely quirky, with a list of likes and dislikes longer than Atlas Shrugged. Nothing makes him happier than galloping and jumping over enormous obstacles, and nothing scares him more than tarps or patches of snow.

Nyls has many top placings at the upper levels of the sport, and is now retired from competition. He spends his days at His Farm bossing everybody around, and assisting with the training of young horses. He is excellent at ponying babies across the river and through the fields, and tolerates no nonsense while instilling confidence in them at the same time.

Turkey is a 2013 Thoroughbred gelding that Kate acquired directly after his racing career from Big Lick Farms. By Colonel John out of a Forest Wildcat mare, Turkey raced under the name Turkomani 19 times between the ages of two and four, but ultimately the lifestyle wasn’t for him. He was responsibly retired, and jumped right in to his new career as an event horse.

Turkey competed in the 2018 Retired Racehorse Project, finishing 5th in the Eventing division, and 6th in the Show Jumping division. He has competed through Modified level and has big plans for the future.

Turkey is a strange bird, with lots of quirks under saddle and on the ground. He loves people, but he also loves biting people with a smile on his face. He has a large fan base already due to his exuberant jumping style, and he is an excellent teacher for his rider. He hopes one day to be as cool as Nyls.
